DHS ammoThe Department of Homeland Security is set to purchase a further 21.6 million rounds of ammunition to add to the 1.6 billion bullets it has already obtained over the course of the last 10 months alone, figures which have stoked concerns that the federal agency is preparing for civil unrest…
The solicitation asks for 10 million pistol cartridge .40 caliber 165 Grain, jacketed Hollow point bullets and 10 million 9mm 115 grain jacketed hollow point bullets.
The document also lists a requirement for 1.6 million pistol cartridge 9mm ball bullets.
To put that in perspective, during the height of active battle operations in Iraq, US soldiers used 5.5 million rounds of ammunition a month. Extrapolating the figures, the DHS has purchased enough bullets over the last 10 months to wage a full scale war for almost 30 years.
Get all the troubling details:
Some facts: There 330 million citizens. Over 300 million firearms in civilian hands. An estimated 1 billion rounds of ammo in civilian hands at any given time (the yearly consumption is 8 billion rounds). [source: FBI and US census]
There are 1.4 million active duty personnel in the military and 800,000 reservists. Another 1.1 million State and local police. And the armed special agents of the FBI equal 13,000 with 11,000 for the DEA/ICE and 2,000 ATF agents. [source: wikipedia]
That comes to a grand total of only 2.6 million. Take into account that most of our military is spread across the globe. Also it’s questionable just how many military and law enforcement personnel would actually fire on civilians if so ordered.
If this administration is seriously considering an armed coup or if they think whatever assets they could muster could put down a popular uprising, they must be insane. Perhaps they believe these large purchases will dry up the civilian ammo supply.
